Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: Why form yet another ministry organization?
- I felt God calling me into a specific ministry and as I pursued that invitation God closed doors that were normally open and opened doors that had been closed eventually leading me to believe it was His desire for me to form this ministry. From a practical standpoint, it is our desire to acquire used eyeglasses and then take them to people who need them in third world countries. Forming this organization allows us to acquire them over a period of time and as we have enough to either join an existing opportunity or organize our own opportunity to take them where they are needed.
- Q: What is the significance of the name Ephesians 6-6?
- In looking for a name for this ministry I prayed that God would give me a name, and then began looking into names that would Glorify God through the donations of eyeglasses to third world countries. All the names my friends and I came up with were already taken, but in searching scripture for references to eyes I ran across this verse: “not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart.” As I believe this is God’s desire for this organization I chose Ephesians 6:6 as a reminder. 6:6 became 6-6 because “:” is not a recognized character in a business name or web address.
- Q: Is Ephesians 6-6 affiliated with a local Church and/or denomination?
- All the people on the board of directors are active members of their local Church and we encourage all Christians young and old to be in active fellowship at a local Church and to place themselves under the authority of the Church Leadership. However it is our desire to work with a wide range of people who might come from various Churches and denominations and to occasionally partner with any Churches sending people on mission trips. As God leads we may also choose to pursue Bridge Building opportunities with countries and people groups who are hostile to evangelistic outreach. Although we don’t intend to ever deny our faith or water down our beliefs it was felt that it would be easier to work with these varied groups of people if we were not associated with a specific Church or denomination.
- Q: What is the vision / focus / purpose of Ephesians 6-6?
- Ephesians 6-6 Ministries exists to demonstrate God’s Grace and Love through acts of service and to help others to know and to fulfill God’s calling in their life.
- Q: How can I help?
- We need supporters to lift us up financially and through prayer, and we need volunteers to partner with us in fulfilling our vision.
- Q: How can you help me?
- It is our desire to help you know God’s calling in your life and to enable and equip you to fulfill that calling.
- Q: Are my contributions to Ephesians 6-6 Ministries tax deductible?
- Yes, any donations to this organization are considered tax deductible by the IRS (minus the value of any gifts given in return).
- Q: Are there any paid positions within your organization?
- Currently all the money received by this organization is being used to minister and it is not our intention to pay anyone just for being on the Board of Directors. However, we are open to paying people a reasonable compensation for work provided to the ministry including any director who provides a significant amount of their time and talents in building up and/or running this organization.
Seeing is Believing:
- Q: Why collect your own glasses if Lions Clubs International is already doing that?
- We work with Lions Clubs International to acquire used eyeglasses. However, due to limited supplies they currently limit the number of glasses in any one diopter to 50. On a mission trip we might need to give out 3 or 4 times that many. If we are collecting used eyeglasses to increase the supply it is more efficient for us to also read their prescriptions locally rather than collect the eyeglasses, send them to the recycling center in Midland where they are cleaned and the prescriptions read, sorted, packaged, and shipped back to us in Fort Worth. Glasses that we cannot use, such as bifocals and glasses with correction for strong astigmatism, we send on to Lions Club for recycling.
- Q: Why is Seeing is Believing no longer active?
- This ministry was organized around the distributing of eyeglasses, and was successfully done, giving out thousands of eyeglasses, and training and supplying others in Peru, Ethiopia, Jamaica, and India. However, it was never intended to be a ministry in itself as much as a means of helping those in an area where we were otherwise ministering. Over time fewer opportunities presented themselves. Even before COVID shutdown everything, we had no trips planned and were also running short of some prescriptions. Then the storage facility was broken into and everything was taken, including our supply of eyeglasses. It was decided that until there is a compelling reason to start over, Seeing is Believing has simply run its course.
